LASIK and the Advanced Features of the WaveLight® Refractive Suite

Illinois Eye Center is proud to provide patients with the latest form of blade-free LASIK treatment available today. The WaveLight® Refractive Suite is the most advanced and efficient laser system for Laser Vision Correction in the United States. It includes the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser, WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser and Swiveling patient bed. These three technologies work together to produce faster results while reducing the risk of complications during surgery.

The LASIK Procedure
Traditional LASIK surgery requires cutting a flap on your cornea using a sharp blade. The WaveLight FS200 Femtosecond Laser creates a flap in just seconds with precision and accuracy. The flap is then lifted allowing the WaveLight EX500 Excimer Laser to deliver light energy to the cornea. This reshapes the cornea, allowing incoming light rays to focus correctly on the retina, providing crisp, clear vision. After the procedure, the flap is put back in place, serving as a natural bandage. You’ll be able to begin enjoying your new-and-improved eyesight almost immediately following the procedure.

Is LASIK surgery in your future?
Laser Vision Correction may be able to give you the freedom from glasses and contacts you’ve been looking for. During an initial evaluation, your doctor will determine whether you are a candidate for the procedure and if so, which type of treatment is appropriate for your unique needs. The best candidates for LASIK surgery meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • need glasses or contacts to see clearly
  • have a prescription that hasn’t changed over the past 12 months
  • have a healthy cornea, retina and eye pressure
  • have no evidence of a major eye disease, collagen vascular, autoimmune or immunodeficiency disease
  • are not pregnant or nursing
  • have realistic expectations of what the surgery can accomplish

Laser Vision Correction can improve your eyesight whether you have myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia (the gradual loss of your eyes’ ability to focus on nearby objects), or astigmatism. The choice to undergo LASIK is an exciting decision and one that requires careful consideration and planning. The highly experienced vision team at Illinois Eye Center is ready to answer any questions you may have. We also offer FREE LASIK consultations to determine whether the LASIK procedure is right for you. Call (309) 243-2400 today.
