The studies performed found that both LASIK surgery and PRK provide safe and reliable results even for service members in highly active situations, like combat fighter pilots.
LASIK studies have even led to the approval of the use of LASIK for astronauts, deeming it suitable for low-pressure and low-oxygen situations. “If it’s good enough for an astronaut,” says Dr. Steven Schallhorn, a NASA consultant, “I think a lot of people can choose LASIK with a lot more confidence.”
