The WaveLight® FS200
It starts with the Blade-Free WaveLight® FS200 laser. This is known as a femtosecond laser, and LASIK surgeons use this tool to create an ultrathin, circular flap in the cornea. The WaveLight® can complete this step in as little as six seconds, making it the fastest laser platform of its kind available in the United States.
This laser is designed for speed, precision, and patient comfort. The WaveLight® FS200 works at a rate of 200kHz (that’s really fast). It employs a system called Beam Control Check to calibrate to the eye hundreds of times per second to ensure total accuracy. This ensures that even the slightest eye movements are accounted for and the laser has absolute precision.
The WaveLight® EX500
The next step of the process is the actual reshaping of the cornea, achieved with an excimer laser. Utilizing the WaveLight® integrated computer network, this laser and the FS200 work together to ensure a fast and reliable procedure. The EX500 uses a 500 Hz repetition rate and a number of advanced features to bring treatment time down to approximately seven seconds.
This system sculpts the surface of the cornea with an ultrathin beam and PerfectPulse Technology®.
